The European Union prescribes that chemicals restricted by the RoHS directive should be reviewed by the European Commission periodically. The RoHS directive restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment, vide Directive 2002/95/EC.
In this context, the European Commission has asked specific agencies to study the feasibility and need for inclusion of other chemicals into the purview of the RoHS directive. The studies, though not ratified by the European Commission, throw light on the potential chemicals that may be regulated by the RoHS directive.
The candidates for a potential inclusion into the RoHS Directive and their chemical names are:
1. Tetra Bromo BisPhenol-A (TBBP-A)
2. Hexa Bromo Cyclodo Decane (HBCDD)
3. Bis (2-Ethylhexyl) Phthalate (DEHP)
4. Butyl Benzyl - Phthalate (BBP)
5. Di Butyl Phthalate(DBP)
